Tracey Curtis-Taylor established Rockpool in 2005 as a small, private enterprise for sourcing, designing and marketing her own unique, hand-crafted necklaces using unusual combinations of rocks, minerals, semi-precious gemstones and organic gem materials such as shell, pearls and coral.
Tracey's life-long passion for stones and love of travel has taken her all over the world, notably North America, Africa and the South West Pacific, and it was these places and cultures that also fired an interest in tribal and ethnic jewellery with its bold, elemental designs. Many of the stones she uses are not commonly found commercially and are entirely natural and untreated, unlike many 'precious' stones or cheaper variants. For example: chrysoprase, which is a beautiful, milky créme de menthe colour; azulite, which combines emerald green and ultramarine blue; zoisite, which features veins of ruby in moss-green bedrock; and amazonite, which is glacial blue with a matrix of white veins.
Her defining ambition with Rockpool is to create memorable, collectible and affordable pieces of jewellery for discerning people with a taste for something beautiful, natural and original. Precisely because these are not 'precious' stones, her necklaces are a departure from 'fine' jewellery. Prices range from £150 for simple pendants, £250-£300 for most necklaces and up to £500 for the most elaborate pieces.
